Welcome to Stonehurst Hills Elementary School!

Stonehurst Hills Elementary School’s mission is to incorporate sound educational philosophy and effective instructional practices, setting the tone for academic excellence. The Stonehurst Hills staff consists of dedicated professionals who are fully committed to the academic success of the students and families they serve. The teachers, families, support staff and principal work collaboratively towards a shared goal of providing the best educational opportunities for student success.

You will discover Stonehurst Hills hidden in the densely populated, row house neighborhood of Upper Darby. For over 83 years, Stonehurst Hills Elementary School has been an integral part of the community - a neighborhood school, not unlike those portrayed by ethnographer Sarah Lawrence Lightfoot. Stonehurst Hills is located west of the city of Philadelphia. The enrollment at Stonehurst Hills is approximately 625 students, and 100% of the students are within walking distance. The school population is richly diverse, representing many ethnic cultures.

A 1990 winner of the National School of Excellence Award, Stonehurst continues to strive for excellence. Current trends are reflected in classroom practices. There is a strong emphasis on academics as well as sound programs that offer many opportunities for children in the areas of art, music, and fitness. Established in 2007, Stonehurst Hills designed a Summer Scholars Program that provides age appropriate skill practice in all academic areas and related arts. The program is designed to provide optimal opportunities for family involvement during the summer months as well as prevent “summer learning loss.” At Stonehurst Hills students and staff work respectfully together, using the Responsive Classroom model, to build a sense of community and belonging.

An active Home and School Association supports the curricular and extracurricular endeavors at Stonehurst Hills. Opportunities for strengthening relationships between families and school include functions such as Bingo, Family Fun Night, Specials Night, Fall Festival and Grandparents Night.

Stonehurst Hills… A neighborhood partnership built on service and success!
