Welcome to Hillcrest Elementary School!

Hillcrest Elementary School’s mission is to provide an educational environment that encourages all learners to respect themselves and others, value education, contribute to their communities, and succeed in an ever-changing world. We provide our students with opportunities for success, and we expect our students to make progress each day toward attaining that success. We seek to instill in each student the desire to be a lifelong learner and to serve others.

Hillcrest, a neighborhood school, is located in Drexel Hill, PA. It first opened its doors on March 1, 1951 and has since been recognized as both a State and National School of Excellence. Hillcrest prides itself on having the distinction of making Adequate Yearly Progress in each of the seven years that the state of Pennsylvania has evaluated schools under the No Child Left Behind legislation.

Hillcrest has a complete educational staff consisting of regular and special education teachers. In addition, Hillcrest has a literacy coach, reading specialists, a speech therapist, a social worker, a psychologist, a full-time nurse, instructional assistants, building assistants, and a full office staff to assist children and their families. Students benefit from the comprehensive core reading program and the specific reading interventions designed to meet their individual needs. Students have access to computers in the mini classroom labs and the very successful Math Lab that addresses individual needs in the area of mathematics. Adaptive physical education, occupational and physical therapy, along with life skills classes, comprise some of the other programs available to students at Hillcrest. Specialists in the areas of art, music, library, and physical education also provide instruction to our students.

The academic achievement of the students at Hillcrest is an indication of our talented and committed staff. The entire Hillcrest community works to create a nurturing environment that is conducive to learning. We encourage students to reach high academic levels, participate in various activities, and contribute to their communities through service projects. We are fortunate to have involved and supportive parents and an active Home and School Association. Through family events, fun activities, academically based programs, and fund raising efforts, our Home and School Association benefits the students and unites the entire Hillcrest community.
